Summer Stock Up

I'm super excited to join in on The Primary Gal's Summer Stock Up.
Show What You Know Back to School Centers helped me out so much last year and I will be using them again this year to help with assessing my firsties.
This pack includes 5 Math and 5 Literacy Centers.
This post will highlight the Math portion of this center pack.

Show What You Know Back to School Centers

Snacking Ten Frames numbers 1-20
Students used dry erase markers to add the correct amount of dots to match the number on the ten frame.  Students could have used small erasers, buttons or other small objects to make the ten frame match the number.
Book Buddies Ten Frames match numbers 0-20
 Students matched the number to the correct ten frame for a match.

Number Sense Puzzles
 Students put together the number puzzles to show 4 ways to show the number in the middle.
Write the Room-Numbers 1-20
 Sorry it's hard to see in this picture but students counted the objects on the cards that were placed around the room and then recorded their answer on the recording sheet.

Work It Wednesday: 6/24 FOOD!

It's Wednesday and that means it's time to link up with Katie for another Work It Wednesday!
This week I'm trying to work on making better food choices.
So when I wanted something I tried to make it a little bit healthier.

I know I do A LOT:/
Here is my healthyfied ( is that even a word, well it is now) version:
The Busy Busy Hive
 I used a low carb tortilla, a little bit of spaghetti sauce, loaded up the veggies like onions, red peppers and spinach, some shredded chicken and a little cheese.  Is it completely clean? No but it is much healthier than a slice of pizza from Pizza Hut.  It was very delicious too!

 I really like Tilapia fish.  I just sprayed with a little bit of Pam olive oil and sprinkled some sea salt and Parmesan cheese over the fish then baked for about 13 minutes.  I thought there would be several leftover for tomorrow.  Nope only 3 made it to the frig.  I'd say the Hubby really liked it:)

The Hubby and kids wanted ice cream from Chillers.  So what's a girl to do!  I made a healthy choice and went with the Strawberry Frozen Yogurt no fat no sugar added.  It was very good and I would most definitely get it again.

This one probably isn't really healthy but it is a little bit of a better choice in my opinion,  Pumpkin muffins are a HUGE hit with my kids at home.  The best part is there are only 2 ingredients.  1 Box cake mix and a can of pumpkin.  That is it!!!  I mix the cake mix with the can of pumpkin until it is all mixed well.  (This time I used the sugar free cake mix and it was just as good as if I used regular mix.)  Then I spoon some into muffin pans.  This box made 12 nice size muffins.  I think I would really like this if I had a mini muffin pan and made bite size muffins.  Anyway these don't last long at my house.  Next time I might try this with an Angel Food cake mix and see how that works out.

Of course I walked and worked out at the gym this week.  I also drank lots of WATER!!!

Makeover Madness Week 1

The first week of the TpT Seller Challenge is coming to an end and I'm just now getting my product together.  Better late than never!  Anyway I made over my behavior calendars.  I needed to update them for the upcoming year and so it only made sense to go ahead and give them a little face-lift.  I changed out all the clip art to Melonheadz.  I also changed the fonts to make them look better.  The month and year stand out so much better now.

While I was updating my free calendars also updated my editable calendars.  Again I updated the clip art and fonts plus I added calendars for the next 5 years also so you won't have to wait on me to update them.

Work It Wednesday: 6/17 My Real Fitness Story

I'm linking up this week with the sweet Katie from Queen of the First Grade Jungle for her Work It Wednesday.

Last year I started following Katie's fitness post on Instagram and decided it was time to get in shape.  I hired an on-line trainer and lost about 25 or more pounds.  Everyone was telling me how great I looked and asking how I was doing it.  But the whole time I didn't see these big changes that everyone else were seeing.  I would start to feel really good about my weight loss and then I'd go try something on and be really depressed.  What I saw in the mirror was the same old me.  Even though I was wearing smaller clothes and the scale showed a much smaller number I didn't feel it.  I hated the diet the trainer had me on.  I felt like I could only eat fish, chicken and broccoli.
Did it work?
Was I happy?
I spent my WHOLE summer counting macros and stressing about the weekly progress pictures I was going to have to send to him.  This wasn't for me.  And after my time with him ran out I slowly gained just about all that weight back.

Fast forward to this summer and I'm working on my fitness again but there is a big change.  I saw Katie posting about AdvoCare and I took the plunge and signed up as a distributor under her.  Then I bought the 24 day Challenge.  Wish I could say I did great on it but I bombed it:(  I did lose 6 pounds and 3 inches on the cleanse phase.  I can't wait for me to be able to give it another try.

As of now I am working on finding what works for me.  I have found these items to really help me.
I drink spark everyday!
I get up at 3:45 am to get to the gym by 4 am.
Spark helps me wake up and keeps me motivated with great energy.
Spark to save the day!

I take Catalyst to in the morning before breakfast.
It gives me energy and helps my muscles.

I have a really hard time not eating ALL day long.
So this next product has been a life saver.

I'm still working on the timing to make sure I have the whole day covered for appetite control.
Right now I take one around 8-9 am and then again around 1-2 pm.

When I'm hungry for a snack I try really hard to grab fruit or veggies but sometimes those just don't cut it.  I really love Questbars for a sweet snack or dessert.  This one is my current favorite!!

I'm thinking about having my macros recalculated and giving that a try again but just not sure yet.

Book Study: Learn Like a Pirate {Ch 2}

After reading the first chapter of this book I was all for a student-led classroom.  It sounded wonderful!  The students will be engaged, learning and taking ownership of their education and learning.  Team work and learning together.  Learning independence and responsibility while the teacher is free to help and mentor students in their learning adventure.

It all sounds wonderful!

Almost too wonderful.

I had a lot of concerns like:
*I like being in control.  How do I give that up?
*My classroom will be loud.  Like really loud.
*How do I fit everything in?
*What about the quiet kids?
*How do I make this work in my classroom?
*What if I fail?????

This chapter helped me look at all these concerns (and some I didn't even know I had until I read them) and realize it's still worth the chance to take.  If it doesn't work out then I will have a teacher-led classroom just like I always have had.  But if I take the chance and jump in and give this a try with an open mind I might find a wonderful new adventure for me and my students.

One concern I still have and worry a little bit about is that this seems to work great with 3rd and up classrooms.  I'm worried as to how I will make this happen in my first grade.  I'm reading along and looking into how to make this happen and work for  me.  I know I will modify it to fit my classroom.
It's just a question as to how I will end up doing that in the end.
I do know that I am willing and ready to give this a try.

Book Study: Learn Like A Pirate {Chapter 1}

This summer I'm super excited to join in my first book study.  The Primary Gal chose Learn Like a Pirate as the book and I couldn't be happier.  I mean who doesn't like pirates!!!  If I was to tell my sweet firsties we were going to learn like pirates they would instantly be in character and ready to set up a plank for everyone to walk:)  That's just the kind of kids they are.

The first chapter is really short and easy to understand.  Paul tells us exactly what a student-led classroom is and what you might see. So...

What is a Student-Led Classroom?
"A student-led classroom is one in which students make decisions and choices throughout the day without consulting the teacher." Paul Solarz

I'm not going to lie, reading that line in the book made me cringe.  Really!?!  Allow my first graders to make decisions throughout the day without consulting me!  Not sure I'm up to that challenge.  Not sure I can't not be up to that challenge either.  It's scary to think of giving my first graders control.  I mean sure we complete KWL charts and I might ask them if they would like to learn about spiders or bats during October but really allow them to make the decisions and become equal partners in their learning has never even crossed my mind.

When I sit back and really think about it, why not allow them to own their education?
It's an ego thing.
And my ego is what's at steak here.
I'm the teacher!
I'm in charge!
I make the decisions!
It's my classroom!  They are only going to be in it for about 175 days before they move on to the next grade.

When I really think about all these things I realize,
I am the teacher but I'm suppose to facilitate not control.
I'm suppose to engage my students to be responsible members of our team (family).
They should have a voice and be active learners and decision makers.

How am I going to do this in my first grade classroom?  I have NO IDEA!  But I'm willing to give it a try.  My first step is to keep an open mind and to finish reading this book.  Chapter 2 is called Common Concerns About Student-Led Classrooms.  Yep I have some concerns so I think chapter 2 will be a great place to start:)

June Pinterest Pick 3

It's hard to believe the school year is finally over for me.  I loved my class this year and it was a really good year but I am so relived that it is over.  I feel like I can breathe again!  To start off my summer I'm linking up with two of my bloggy buddies Lisa and Marissa for their amazing Pinterest Pick 3 party.  It's just too easy not to join.  
This summer it's all about the House and some clean eating!

I have lived in my house for 11 years now and the front door has ALWAYS been white.
I'm taking the plunge and I'm going to paint it a bright turquoise.  My husband thinks I've lost my mind but since I'm the one painting it he really isn't going to say much:)  Wish this was my front door but I LOVE the color.

When you walk into my house you are looking at huge wall with absolutely nothing on it.  It's even a green color similar to the on in this picture.  I have started collecting different types, sizes and texture crosses to add to my wall.  Not sure exactly what it will look like but I really like this look.

Last summer I signed up with a very popular online trainer.  I lost quite a bit of weight and liked where I was but it was very difficult to keep up with his meal plan(diet).  This summer I have decided to get back on track and start clean eating most of the time.  I also just joined Advocare and I'm LOVIN' how that has helped me.  I'm not perfect and I'm never going to be and I'm Okay with that.  One day at a time and trying to make healthier choices.
