Five for Friday

Whoo Hoo it's Friday!!
What could possibly be better?
I'll tell ya.
I'm now officially on Spring Break!!!!!
I'm linking up with the FAB-U-LOUS Doodle Bugs Teaching for 5 for Friday.
It is way randomness that follows so enjoy.

Our school has decided to adopt a new reading textbook for next year {Common Core of course}.
These are the 2 contenders for the job.
I am partial to Wonders but the 2nd grade teacher likes Journeys.
We are a Catholic School so the Catholic Identity part of Journeys is very appealing.
I think we are going to take a look over Spring Break and then come back and decide what our future holds.
If you use either of these and are willing to share your likes and dislikes please do.
We currently have Reading Street but we will not be getting the new version.
We were very disappointed with their Common Core version.
The stories were basically the same.
I need a change people!!
You can only teach Pig in a Wig so long and then who cares about those dirty pigs;)

I love getting awesome feedback like this from buyers.
Even when it's on a free item.
It just makes my heart sing!!!
Thank You!!!

My 2 littlest kiddos showing off some of their new clothes for our trip to Florida.
Yes my daughter is wearing stripes and polka dots.
That's just the way she rolls.
#lovemyhippydaughter
We leave tomorrow night!!!!!!

I have been seeing this shirt and I NEED it.
Yes this is a NEED not a WANT:)

Today after we finished our spelling test and reading test I showed a movie.
This movie moved me to best teacher ever status.
I wish I had taken a video of my lovelies singing.
They were so cute and they knew every word of every song.
Just melted my heart to see them so happy.

Before I sign off for the night I just want to let you know that my little store is 20% off threw March 31st.

Dinosaurs {Part 2}

The other day I shared some of the dinosaur centers we used last week.
You can click here to read that post and grab the freebies.
Here are the second set of centers we enjoyed.
These were more for fun and we did these in the afternoon.

I found this book in the Scholastic Book Club and bought it knowing that we would be reading about Barnum Brown.  This was an exceptional book and I would highly recommend it for your dinosaur unit.

We became paleontologist and went on a dig for dinosaur bones.
This was a huge favorite of all the kiddos.
I mean who doesn't love digging in rice looking for 3-D dinosaur puzzle pieces.

I found the pink and green garden tools at the Dollar Store.
We also had paint brushes to use.

This was the second favorite center.
Growing Dinosaurs!!
I found these at the Dollar Store too!!
Each child chose a Dino and a capsule to grow.
We learned that these worked better with warm water.

The capsules were ready by the end of our center time and the kiddos got to take them home.
The growing dinosaur toy needed a couple of days to get bigger.
Next time I would have everyone grow their dinosaur on Monday and wait until Friday to take them home.
At another center we used colored clay to make our own dinosaurs.
Here are a few of our creations.

Our last center was a Dr. Seuss center.
Yep we celebrated Read Across America this week too.
We designed Designer Socks for a Dashing Fox.

I found so many other great things at the Dollar Tree to use with this unit.
I just didn't have time to fit it all in.

Have a Great Day!!

Dinosaurs {part 1} Freebies included

This past week we were reading Mr. Bones from our Reading Street series.
It's a bibliography about Barnum Brown, the dinosaur hunter.
It's a really great little story and I came up with so many ideas to use for centers.
Today I want to share the reading and math centers my kiddos got to enjoy.

I have a hard time with finding time for centers so I decided to have 2 reading/spelling type centers and 2 math related centers.  This way I can get both in during the day.  It also didn't help that we had a snow day on Monday and a delay on Tuesday.  No wander I can't fit everything in:(

Anyway here are the 2 reading centers.
We used my Mr. Bones Tic-Tac- Toe game from this little simple center.
The kids read the oa or ow words.  If they got it correct they placed an x or an o on the game board.
3 in a row wins.  It was a huge hit!!

I laminated the board game and the kiddos use dry erase markers to play.
It's a super easy and fun way to learn those skills.

The other center was  stamp your spelling words.
I had gotten these neat little stampers at Target.
The kiddos stamped out their oa, ow spelling words on writing paper.
They really enjoyed stamping out their names.
Next time I plan on having different colored stamp pads to use too.

I whipped these little Math centers up last Sunday night for my kiddos to use the next day.
Of course we had a snow day on Monday so we had to wait until Tuesday to use them.

Meet My Dino Family is a fact family game.
Students picked a dino card and then made a fact family out of the 3 numbers on the card.

Eggcellent Subtracting Dinos game.
It's hard to tell from the pic but each Easter egg has a strip of paper with a simple subtraction problem on it.
Kiddos picked an egg and opened it.
They then recorded the problem on the recording sheet and answered it.
Who knew that putting subtraction problems in cheep plastic eggs wold make it a fun game;)

You can check out Mr. Bones sorting center at my TpT store.
It also has several other ways to play this game center other than the Tic-Tac-Toe.

These little math centers are FREE at my store.
Click on the pictures to grab them.
Please leave a little feedback it you grab it.

Have an AWESOME Saturday!!

Five for Friday {Random Style}

I'm back and I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share some randomness from my week.

That's me!!!!!
I won the school raffle for a Spring Break vacation to Florida.
So March 30- April 4th I'll be soaking up some rays.
The kids are super excited about going to Disney.

Soccer has finally started.
Go Mud Dogs!!
This is where I will be spending my Saturdays for awhile now:)
This is just one picture of some of the stuff I scored at the Dollar Tree.
Bet you can't guess what we learned about this week;)

I found these goodies at Target in the dollar spot.
Can you see the bee socks in the back?
Love them!!
The bee magnifiers were a no brainer too.
I bought all of them.
I now have enough for my whole class to use at the same time.

I know it is getting close to spring when this little lady shows up.
She actually came running when she saw me get out of the car.
She was wanting her peanut butter bread.

This past week my kiddos have been learning about dinosaurs.
I'll be back tomorrow to show and share some of the reading and math centers we used.

Until tomorrow have a great day!!
