FB Freebie, SLANT box and More;)

I survived the first 8 days of school!!!!
I had completely forgotten how wore out you are at the beginning of the year.
I have been lying around trying to recoup after those 8 days;)
But I still love what I do and get excited to go into work everyday.
I'm truly blessed because not everyone can say that.

This year I have 14 little cuties this year but I might be getting another one soon.
We have had so much fun this week.
I introduced Dr. Jean's karate letters and the kids love it.
They ask to do it after calendar time before we go back to our seats:)
So we do!!

I got a Smart Board!!
I'm so excited to learn how to use it.
None of the other teachers on our floor wanted it in their room taking up space.
So I got it:)
I have not used it in about 6 years and I have no idea what to do but I am determined to learn how to use it and have it as a center for my kiddos to use.

I also found this adorable rug online at Wal-Mart.  It's small but it fits in the reading spot perfectly.

We made paper airplanes in science to show that scientist make models to learn.
We then took them out side and flew them to see who's plane would go the farthest.
This is our school bulletin.  If you scroll down to first grade you can watch the short video.

I just finished uploading a new Creative Writing packet.
Critter Writing is half off this long weekend.

Want to get it for FREE?
Yep!  I said FREE
Facebook Fans can pick it up for Free from the Fan Freebie tab.

Last but certainly not least I received my SLANT BOX this week:)
I was so excited when I got home earlier this week and noticed a box for me.
My 2 littlest couldn't wait to open it.
I LOVE the bee wreath!!  I already have it hanging in my classroom:)  I also already used the color pens to grade papers.  I have never had them before and I have to say they were great.  They write so smooth and the colors are very vibrant.  The 2 long note pads are on my filing cabinet so I will be able to find them when I need to write something down.  Can a teacher ever have too many post-it notes?  NO!!!!  I love them!  Now I'm all set for my apple unit:)  Thanks so much Rebecca!!!
If you would like to sign up and have a SLANT BOX partner click here.  September 3rd is the last day to sign up for a September partner.

Have a wonderful 3 day weekend!!!

Back to School Sale:)

It's that time of year where teachers everywhere are getting ready to head back to school.
Some may all ready be back and enjoying their new class.
Some like myself are gearing up to head back this week.
And some are lucky enough to have a few more weeks of summer left.
It doesn't matter when you go back we all love a good sale.
TpT is the one sale every year that I now look forward too.
And this year I am truly excited to get some goodies for my classroom.
I'm going to start math centers this year so now is the time to stock up on those goodies while the sale is on this weekend.

My store will be on sale too!  Everything will be 20% off along with the 10% that TpT gives.  That will be a total of 28% off!!!

{Thanks Beth at Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah for the button!}

I'm linking up with Christina Bainbridge @ *Bunting, Books and Bainbridge* for her Back to School Sale "Best and Most".  Isn't it cute it looks just like a high school yearbook page:)

My teacher's pet is my First Grade Reading Street simple centers for the WHOLE year.  There are 5 units and each unit has 6 centers.  Each center has 7 ways to play it.  They all follow the same template so once my kids know how to play the centers I don't have to teach the rules again.  I just change out the center each week and they can get down to work.  Less work for me and the kids are more independent.  I now have a center for each week of the school year.  My school uses reading street but even if we change readers I will still be able to use these centers.  They help the kids with the skills so well;)

I'm currently working on Grade 2.  I have Units 1-3 completed and units 4-6 are still to come:)

Most likely to help your students succeed is my Who Knows Their Sight Words.  This is a teacher assessment pack complete with activities for the kids.  I'm working on an update to this file so now is the time to grab it up while it is at this price and on sale:)  Currently it includes several ways to keep track of your kids success and loads of activities like color by sight word, words searches, scrambled words and more.

My black and white Alphabet posters and Number posters are next.  Don't they make a cute couple:)

Happy Shopping!!

My Classroom- Sneak Peek

Today I'm linking up again with Blog Hoppin' to give you a sneak peek into my classroom.
I wish it was the BIG reveal but I'm not allowed into my room today to because they are waxing the hallway floors.  And I forgot to take pictures the other day when I was there.
So here are just a few teasers of my room.  I promise to have a big reveal of my second home next week.

My new alphabet!!

My new number line and blends posters.  The blends posters are going to be above my alphabet.
New behavior clip chart!!
I've actually changed this a little bit.  My stereo is on the other side of the black board and I have milk crate seats where the stereo is in this picture.  I made the big pom poms and put them there just until I can move them to their real home in the room.  I decided that they didn't look so great so I decided to make some new ones.  The new ones are a little smaller and I haven't fixed them yet.

My back to school books are out and ready to go.  This is my newest hive.  I have several bees and hives throughout my room.  I love them and I'm always on the lookout for more;)

So that is just a little sneak peak into my classroom.  I have my Meet the Teacher day on Sunday so I really need to have my room pretty much done by then.  I promise to show it off as soon as I can.  I really am proud of how it looks this year.  I have learnt so many tips and tricks for all the wonderful bloggers out there and I am fully taking advantage of your knowledge .  Thanks!!

Teacher Week: Meet the Teacher

Wow it's been a little bit since I've last blogged.   But I'm back today to talk about ME.
I'm linking up with Blog Hoppin' for their Teacher Week linkies.  I'm going to do my best to link up everyday but I'm not making any promises.  But I am here today and it's all about me.
So here we go with 10 little bits of info about me.

#1 My name is Heather Byers and I teach first grade in Kentucky.  This will be my 10th year teaching but my 9th year in First.

This is me and my oldest, Katelyn.

#2 I have 3 kids.

Katelyn will be 18 in October.  She is a senior this year.

Natalee is 7 years old and going into 2nd grade.
Brilee is 4 years old and going into Pre-K this year.
#3 I was engaged to my hubby for 10 years before we finally got married.  I was 18 when he asked me and he was 23 so I needed to grow up some.  We also did things out of order and had Katelyn before we were married.  She got to be our flower girl in the wedding.

#4 I have rats as my class pets.  I just lost Squeaky this summer and it was very hard on me.  I still tear up when I think about him.  I have 2 new baby rats for this year.  I named them Nicodemus {from Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh} and Templeton {from Charlotte's Web}.

#5 I HATE spiders.  I go into hysterics when I see one.  There is no such thing as a little spider.  They are all big, scary things.

#6 I LOVE to cook but I hate to do the dishes.  I really need a dishwasher.  The sad thing is my hubby works for GE and I don't have one:(

#7 My all time favorite movie is Clueless.  I know my hubs can't stand it but I really do like it.  I could watch it over and over.

#8 I was a huge New Kids On The Block fan back in the day;)  I talked my sister and brother-in-law into taking me to one of their concerts.  Best concert ever.  My nephew wanted me to go a few years ago but I was very preggo with Brilee and ready to pop.  So I didn't get to go:(

#9 I entered my homemade peanut brittle into the Kentucky State Fair for the first time in 2002 and won a red ribbon for 2nd place.  I have entered something into the fair except the year Brilee was born.  I just turned my brittle in on Sunday, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

#10  I am a HUGE  Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan.  Go Blue Nation!!!  We bleed blue in our house.

Here is a little bit of randomness from this week.

1st
I am loving the backyard garden.  We get to go out everyday and pick fresh veggies.  The kids have been learning so much about plant life and animal life.  We have a bunny that lives in the garden:)

2nd
My kiddos decided to wash my car for me.  It was so dang cute.  No soap just water.  They told me they got the bird poop off.

3rd

I went to work in my room and found lots of goodies.  I think they were donated to our school from a retired teacher.  Anyway there were some great resource books and games that I hope to use this year during my center time.

4th
I decided to clean out my teacher desk.  So I put everything on my student's desks.  Lets just say that I could really use the desk fairy to stop by and HELP clean up the desk with me.  #ineedthedeskfairy

5th
I had a really hard time with my pet rat, Squeaky, passing away in July.  I'm handling it better now {by not crying every time I mention his name} and I'm ready to show off my new pets.
Here is a picture of my 2 new baby class pet rats.  They are both males and look like twins.  I haven't officially named them yet.  My oldest daughter wants to name them Gus and Jack from the mice in Cinderella.  I wanted to name them from rats in books I have read like Templeton from Charlotte's Web or something.   I even thought about letting the kids name them but I just can't stand the idea of them being named something silly.  Maybe I should have some names already chosen and then let the kiddos vote from them.
I'd love for you to leave me a name suggestion or 2;)

August Currently-Seriously?!?!?!?!?!

It's August 1st so it is once again time for Farley's currently.

It all pretty much explains itself but here ya go.
My kiddos were listening to the Fairly Oddparents on TV but now their running around the house and the Hubs is flipping through channels.

I love the new clip art that I bought this week.  I got a few things from Glitter Meets Glue, Creative Clips, Cara Taylor, and Elise ParksThese artist have really gotten my creative mojo going:)

I really need to start planning my first week of school.  I only have 20 days left until I go back!!!!!  I go back on a Wednesday so we only have 3 days that week.  You would think I would have that planned out in no time but I don't.

I NEED more summer vacation!!!!  Preferably without my kids at home.  They are seriously driving me crazy.  I love them to death but really do we need to yell at everyone for everything all day long.  Calgon take me away.

I really need to get back on my diet plan, named weight watchers.  I just have not been with it at all in quite awhile, say ALL of July and August isn't looking good either if today is any indication.  I won't be able to get into my work clothes:(

B2s
1st:  My teacher binder
I keep everything in this thing.  Lessons, grades, correspondence, etc... my school life is in this thing.
