Weekend OVER:( and Trim a Tree


Thanksgiving is over and I'm not looking forward to
going back to work.
I love my job but I have really
enjoyed being off these 5 days. 
Anyway there are a few things that
I am looking forward to that will help with the weekend being over.
 
*Walking Dead comes on tonight
love this show can't wait for Sundays

Anyhoo these things make the weekend coming to an end

Accelerated Reader Board and Christmas Coloring Book {sight word edition}

I had to share one of the amazing AR bulletin boards that my fellow teachers have made up at my school.  They are just too cute to keep to myself.  So here is the first one:
Our 4th grade teacher Mrs. Towels made up this adorable AR
board for her kiddos.
The kids get to choose a colored marshmallow for each AR point they read.  The marshmallows are kept in the snowman Ziploc baggies.  The cups have a cute snowman spoon in it too.  Once the kids reach their goal they will get a packet of hot chocolate to add to their cup.  Their AR party will be watching a movie and drinking their hot chocolate.  Here are a few close up pictures of her board.

I have found the answer to how to get my kids motivated to read. 
And I'm going to be so nice and tell you for FREE.
 
Here  it is......
apparently all you need is a bulletin board with these funny
mad birds that you slingshot
to knock over green pigs in wooden crates to win.

OK so at my school we have Accelerated Reader.
I have posted about it before and I really like this program.
Some people don't like it but I love it. 
I try to have an interactive bulletin board for the
kids to keep track of their reading progress.
This year I have so many kids (25) that I'm not able to
do this on the little board that I have outside our classroom. 
So I have decided to use the big wall close to the girls bathroom.
This is our space but I usually don't use it much.
This year I am using it a lot.
So I decided to use Angry Birds for our tracking system this Trimester.
My firsties are so excited, the second grade is so excited, most of
the kids in the school are excited about this board.
I have to say that I'm excited to start flinging those birds
and seeing my firsties compete to reach their reading goals.
 
 

My kiddos will move their angry bird as they reach
10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100% toward their reading goal. 
At the end of the Trimester we
will have an AR party for all the students that reach
their AR goal.
Not sure what type of party we will have but
the kiddos are really excited about moving
those birds.

Turkey Time! {Thanksgiving Writing and Labeling Packet}

I can't believe that Thanksgiving is almost upon us.  I mean really, where is the year going. 
With that being said I made up a Thanksgiving writing and labeling packet for my kiddos to work on this week and next week.  We are going to be writing in different perspectives of Pilgrims, native Americans and turkeys.  We will also write about what we are thankful for too. 
I haven't done much labeling with my kiddos and I think it is time to start.  I really think they will like labeling the turkey, pilgrim, native American and Mayflower. 
We have also been writing about how to cook a turkey.  These are turning out so cute.  I can't wait to share them with their families and our pen pals.  I hope to have them finished and sent out on Wednesday.

I'm an author at Simply Centers!!!!

Have you hear of the blog Simply Centers?  It is blog dedicated to fun engaging centers for grades K-8.  Each grade level: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 has it's own place where authors post their free and cost centers for you to find.  If your not a follower you should check them out.  I'm super duper excited to say that I'm an author on that blog too!!!  I can't believe it!

Today I posted about my Magical e: the silent letter center.  You might have seen it before but my kiddos are working on changing CVC words into CVCe words and this center is perfect for that.  It's only $2 at my TpT store too.

Currently, Centers and Giveaway

Well the house was quiet but now my 6 yr old is watching Strawberry Shortcake. 
I love the cool fall weather.  I'm all about jeans and sweaters!!
I have several Thanksgiving ideas in the works that I can't wait to make up.  I just hope that it is before Thanksgiving and not after.  I seem to always be running late and playing catch up.  Surely I'm not the only one!?! I hope not.
I want more card stock and pretty paper.  I really just learned about this great stuff this summer.  I guess I was living under a rock before then.  It makes the centers so much more durable.
I need a new microwave.  My old one blew up this week with the whole light show and funny sounds included.  My Hubs kept standing there with his face right by it too as I'm screaming to turn it off.  I made him take it outside right away.  You never know if he is going to go handyman and try to fix things and that thing just needed to go. 
I love playing Dr. Jean's songs for the kiddos.  The kids love the Karate writing song.  It would be a great brain break if you do those in your room. 

I just completed 2 more simple sorting centers.  One for Long and Short u and the other for Long and Short e.  My kiddos love these centers because they are like games to them and I love them because the directions are the same each time.  I don't have to spend a lot of time explaining how to play.  A teacher's dream!!

Sick, Chicka Tree and Field Trips

I have been the worst blogger, but I do have a reason.  I have been so stinking sick for the last 8 days it has not even been funny.  My kiddos have been sick too.  I have has at least 3-5 kids out every day except Halloween.  All but one came that day.  On Monday I had 7 kids and myself out.  So needless to pay we disinfected the desk and room yesterday.  I am feeling much better and I would like to share our Chicka, Chicka Boom Boom letter exchange project. 

We have gotten a few more letters since this picture was taken but I'm getting ready to take it down and do something different.  It was a big hit throughout the whole school!

We also have gone on 2 field trips so far.  The first to Huber's Farm to pick apples and pumpkins.  Here is a pic of us listening to Johnny Appleseed telling us his life story.

We also went to see Wiley and the Hairy Man play.  It was a little scary but we did great and it had a happy ending.

I am so glad that it is Friday and that I am feeling better.  I was able to make 2 center games for my kiddos last night but of course my black ink went out in my printer and the color ink doesn't have black in it.  Really!?! Why does ink have to be this difficult?  So I guess I'll get a black this weekend and play them next week.  They are both available at my TpT store and TN stores for $2.
