Summer Shopping Linky Party

Kristen @Ladybug's Teacher Files is having a Summer Shopping Linky Party and it is perfect for me.  What teacher hasn't been shopping yet? Most likely everyone has been shopping at least a little a lot this summer.  I feel like I need a vacation for my summer vacation.  I mean all I have done all summer is think, blog, make, and dream about school.  I need some time off right.  School starts 2 weeks from tomorrow noooooooooooooo.  I'm not ready.  OK so here is what I've bought so far.

I'm making lollipop trees and
birthday balloons out of these.

Dry erase boards for handwriting practice.

Skippyjon Jones and book.
Play-doh for beginning of the
year.

Colorful containers for games.

Flash cards
Bee perfect for my room.

This is some of what I have bought.  What have you bought so far?  Linky and share.

Monday Made It & a freebie

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening  Bloggy friends!
I'm linking up with 2 great linkies today Monday Made It and then Manic Monday.

Click the button to join!

First off is my Monday Made It.  How many of you want a whisper phone, Phonics phone, Toobaloo phone or whatever you called them for your classroom but they cost just too much.  Well that was my problem until I came across Jen R @ The Teacher's Cauldron and her post of how to make your own.
So here is my version of a whisper phone.
I got these at Lowe's for $2.87 a piece.

I took apart the the pieces.

I spray painted the pieces yellow to
make them pretty.
I then connect the 2 little pieces
to make 3 phones.
Last I added some pretty duct tape
to finish my phones.

I love my new phonics/whisper/toobaloo phones so much.  My little and littlest bee have had so much fun playing with them.  I think my firsties will really enjoy reading with these too.

Okay so now for my freebie.....

I am linking up with Classroom Freebies and offering an "I have ... Who has...?" game.  This game is the uppercase alphabet edition.  It is perfect for Kindergarten and 1st grade students to help with recognition of the uppercase letters.

First Day Jitters Bog Hop

First Day Jitters

I'm linking up with Ashley over @ Fierce in Fourth.  She is hosting a First Day Jitters Blog Hop where you share three things you are jittery about for this upcoming school year.  First of all I have to say that I love this book.  I read it every year to my firsties.

First Day Jitters
OK so here are my 3 Jitters:
 1. Even though this will be my 8th year teaching 1st grade it always feels like the first time.  I have all those new cute little faces looking at me and expecting me to do something and to make it fun so they enjoy what I make them do.  I mean my expectations of first grade may not be what my first graders are expecting this year.

2.  I will have about 26-27 students this year.  WOW!! Last year I only had 11 kiddos.  I was able to give a lot of one-on-one time to all my kids because there wasn't that many of them.  This year I will have an almost full-time par educator.  I'm so happy she will be in my classroom this year.  She was my para educator my first few years teaching too.  I really love her and we get along great.  But this will be my biggest class yet.  Before this year my biggest was 23 and that was my first year teaching.

3.  MY very own daughter will be one of those cute new little faces looking at me this year.  Our school only has one class for each grade.  So she can't be moved to another classroom because there isn't one.  I'm nervous about parents thinking that I give her special attention or that she isn't expected to do the same things their kiddos are expected.  This isn't really a problem in my eyes because I will be expecting her to be doing more but it is a concern that this might be running through my parents' minds.

So there are my first day jitters, what are yours?

School Supplies Surprise

Who doesn't LOVE school supplies? I can't get enough of them.  OK so I see a lot of great blogs that are asked to review wonderful products from different stores and sites and I'm jealous.  I would so love that job.  Well maybe someday I'll get lucky.  But for now I can just pretend that I have been asked to review these products that were sent to me my Principal and got lost in the shuffle of everyday school until now when I was asked it I wanted them.  Do bees make honey? yes.  Do squirrles eat nuts? yes.  Do I want FREE school supplies?  YES, YES, YES!!!!!!!

So I took the box home and look what I got.  The box was full of name brand school supplies.  The company that sent these awesome supplies is called EduKit and this is how it works.
The teacher makes a supply list and EduKit makes a kit with the items to offer it to parents.  Parent don't have to worry about if they bought everything their child needs because it is ALL in their kit.  It sounds like a great product and an easy way for busy parents to make sure their child has everything they need.  All the items in my kit were name brands like: Crayola, Mead, Fiskars, Ticonderoga pencils, and Avery.  They also offer value options supplies too to help reduce costs.  When my oldest bee was in Kinderagden we did this at her school.  On the first day of school all her supplies were on her desk waiting for her.  Here is EduKit's website if you want to check them out. {click here}

Does your school offer something like this? I would love to know what you think about it, pros & cons.

Monday Made It

I'm linking up with Tara over at 4th Grade Frolics for the Monday Made It!

I made the A Kindergarten Sight Word Candy land game.  I originally saw this on Sara Cooley's blog First Grader...At Last.  It was so cute and I had to have it.  The game is played the same but instead of saying the color on the card students say the sight word in order to move to the color box.  It was super easy to make.  All did was type us my sight words then tape them on the color game cards.  I also made up a title for the game box top so the kiddos would know the game edition.

I actually have 2 of these games.  One has the sight words my daughter needed to know in Kindergarten and then I have a first grade version with the first 4 list of the Dolch Sight words.  I am thinking about making one with Math facts maybe an addition and subtraction edition.

1. what state you are in: Louisville, Kentucky

2. your current teaching position: I teach first grade in the same room I was a first grader in.

3. your teaching experience: My first teaching job was as a 5th grade Math and Reading teacher and 6th grade Religion teacher.  I did that one year and then moved to my current school and have been teaching 1st grade since.  This will be my 8th year in first grade.  My first class is now going to be the big kids in the school.  Graduation this year will be something to really remember.

4. when you started blogging: I actually started my blog in June 2011 but didn't do anything other than set it up and post 2 small post.  I started it so I would stalk follow all the other great blogs out there.  I didn't do anything else until June 2012 when I decided to start blogging for real and got my first follower=)

5. share a blogging tip / blogging resource: Please get rid of the robot verification on your comments.  I didn't even know that I had it on my blog until I checked.  I think it might be a default setting so most new bloggers may not even know they have it on.  Go to your Dashboard then click on Settings (on the left below layout).  Then click on Post and Comments.   Next to Show Word Verification, click the drop down box and check no.   Save settings.

I hope you will decide to join in the fun and link up.  I really enjoy meeting and learning more about everyone out there in bloggy world.

Fun Easy Cheep Center Ideas and Another Award

I was thinking today about some fun yet educational things I did with my kiddos last year that I will do this year.  Maybe you already know about these but I love doing these activities at the beginning of the year and thought I would post about them anyway.

1. Play-Doh- each year I give or let them choose a Play-Doh for their desk.  I usually get the small ones because I can get 20 and the toys for about $10 and they don't take up too much room in their desk.  I use this on the first day of school.  This gives the kids something to do and helps break the ice in my room.  At first I let them just play with the stuff and then have them make letters out it and then use it to make words.

2. Shaving Cream- I love this stuff.  I get mine at the Dollar Store and the kids are begging to do this all the time.  We use this with spelling word practice and it cleans the desk and makes the room smell good too.  That is a big + in my book!!

Littlest bee and Middle bee helping me out with pics:)

3. Q-tip writing- I didn't do this last year because I didn't have any chalkboard to use but I might get some of those little chalkboards and add this to the writing or word work center.  The kiddos use Q-tips dipped in a little water and write on the chalkboards.  The writing shows up when wet and then disappears.  The year I did this the kids loved it but the next year our school covered the blackboards with dry-erase boards.  Sorry no pic.  I think this was an idea from Dr. Jean.
Liz at Teaching in the Valley has awarded me the following.  Thanks so much Liz!!
