Weekend Sale and Giveaway

WOW what a long week.  I'm tired and ready for the long weekend.  I had morning duty this week so I had to be at school at 7 instead of 7:30 for the early drop off.  That half an hour really makes a difference in my day but it's over now for a few weeks then I get to do it again.

I have decided to have a 20% off Labor Day TpT SALE this weekend. The sale ends Monday. One of the items on sale is my Who Knows Their Sight Words? {Fry's First 100 Words} Teacher Assessment Pack. It is currently at a discounted price and on sale. Now is the time to pick it up. It goes up to regular price after the sale.
Click here to check out my sale items.

I'm also helping out Crystal @Mrs. Jones Junction with her 100 follower giveaway!! I'm donating one item from store.  Check out her blog and enter her terrific giveaway.  Click her button to check everything out and to enter.  You won't be sorry!!

Well I'm off to bed.  My eyes are refusing to stay open any longer.

Sight Words

This year I decided to do something different with my sight words .  I usually use the Dolch Sight Word Kit from The School Bell.  I loved it! The students loved it! So why would I change you ask?  Well, I decided that I wanted to use Fry's version of sight words.  I like how Fry has the words numbered (ranked) by how often they are seen in text.  So I decided to make my own Fry Sight Word Pack and I am finally finished.  I am so excited to start using it this year.  I will be using my Student Sight Word Booklet for the students to have at their desk to practice.  I will also be using My Who Knows Their Sight Words: Teacher Assessment Pack and activities to test students and keep an eye on how the class is doing overall.

I will use this sheet to record the student names under
the list they are currently working on.  This will allow
me to pull groups of students quickly to help with sight words.
I will use these list to test individual students.  I will write the date above the column and check the words students know.  They will need to know all 10 words before going on to the next list.
This is one of the 10 color by sight word pictures.

I will use a highlighter to color in the number of the
list the student knows so I can see at a glance
how the class compares.

Here are a few of the things included in the Teacher assessment pack.

These are other items included in the pack. There are 10 word
searches and answer keys and an I have...Who has..? game too!

These are part of the Student Sight Word Booklet!
I will give 1 FREE of each to the first 2 to leave a comment and their e-mail below.  I would love your feedback on both products.  They are both available at my TpT store now Click on the pictures to go there.  The Who Knows Their Sight Words Teacher Assessment Pack is priced at $8 but is discounted to $5 right now.  The Student Sight Word Booklet is $4.

Student tested, Teacher approved!

A few weeks ago I received the most awesomest {yes it is a word in this case} thing in the mail.  Troy from Classroom Friendly Supplies was so wonderful to send me my new best friend.  I tried her out at home but the real test was when my kiddos got their hands on her at school.  They were a little scared at first because she doesn't look like any other pencil sharpener they had ever seen { that is one of her little secrets}.  Soon they wanted to sharpen all the pencils we had because they ALWAYS sharpen perfectly.  So she has been student tested and teacher approved.   Here are some pictures of her.

Look how pretty she is.  She matches my blue caddy and goes with my room perfectly.  OK so here is the deal I know you have seen reviews of this little gal all over the place and everyone is talking about how great it is.  Well the truth is they are ALL telling the truth.  I am serious, I can't say anything bad about my new bestest friend.

I am a huge fan of cute pencils.  I love to give them away as prizes, gifts, and awards in my room because they are cheap and the kiddos love them.  I mean a batman or sparkle pony pencil can change the life a first grader in an instant, but I hated sharpening them.  You know what am talking about:

  • they sharpen on one side only
  • the plastic cute covers get chewed up and peel off
  • the lead breaks EVERY time you sharpen
Well you get the idea.  I promise you that this is not the case with this amazing sharpener.  I have gone through several sharpeners in the last 8 years and they have all bit the dust within the year they were bought or sooner in some cases.  I know my new best friend will be around for a long time.

I highly recommend checking out Classroom Friendly Supplies and trying out a sister or brother to my beautiful new best friend.  You won't be disappointed, I promise {pinkie promise}!

On another note:
If you read one of my earlier post about running out of my boarder and looking into the expensive thought of having to change it and spending A LOT of money you know that I was a little upset.  In comes Rachel from Teaching With Z.  She totally saved the day.  She had some of my long lost border and was so fabulous to send it to me so I could finish my focus board.  Thank you so much Rachel!!!!  You can click on her button to check out her amazing blog!

Hip Hip Hooray for the First Day!!

Today was the first day of school for my kiddos.  They were so cute!  I have 25 kiddos this year {16 boys and 9 girls}.  I am lucky enough to have a para-educator in my room most of the day so we'll be fine but it is hard to get back into the mindset that it is going to take them longer to get things done.  I'm still thinking about the end of school from last year and how much the kids were able to do.  I have to keep reminding myself that they aren't at that point yet.  It will get easier as the days go.

I really didn't get to see my kiddos much today either.  We had a very hectic schedule.
8-9 church {we are a Catholic School and it was a Holy day of obligation}
9-9:30 snack
9:30-11:30 go over rules and behavior clip chart, school tour for the 3 new kiddos, look at our Big Kid math books and completed 2 pages, got our desk ready and all supplies put up and ready, bathroom break
11:45-12:20 Lunch
12:20-12:45 recess
12:45-1:35 Music
1:35-2:25 Library
restroom get ready to go home
2:35 dismissal started
3:00 all kiddos safe and sound back in their parents' care

Tomorrow they will be in the room a lot more so we will go over more of our books and start reviewing more.  I am super excited and ready for the year now.  It wasn't that way the beginning of the week and I was actually dreading going back but that isn't the case now.  I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

Before I go I want to let you know about a giveaway that is going on that you DON'T want to miss.
Dani @ Patterson's Porch: Sit Back, Relax, Share is having a giveaway well actually 2 giveaways and I'm offering an item from my TpT store to the winner.  Click on her button to enter.

Meet Your Teacher Day

Today was meet your teacher day at my school.  I was able to meet 21 of the 25 first graders that are going to be in my room this year.  I am getting excited now that my room is starting to look complete or close enough that no one but me knows otherwise.

Tomorrow is our business day where we meet and go over ALL the different procedures and rules for the year.  I'm even looking forward for tomorrow.

I finally finished my welcome bulletin board that the students saw before coming into our room but I forgot to take a picture so I'll have to add that to tomorrows post.

OK so we all know that there is a HUGE sale going on at TpT and I was able to add a new item to have on sale.  A student sight word booklet using Fry's first 100 words.  There are 4 color and 4 black and white covers.  I plan on using the B&W and letting my kiddos color in the picture on their cover.  I'd love for you to check it out and tell me what you think.

Classroom Hoarder

Yes I am finally ready to admit I have a problem.  I am a classroom hoarder.  I save just about everything.  When I started teaching in my room 8 years ago I kept everything that the previous teachers had left and then added to it a little bit whole lot more.  The worst part is that my basement is full of teacher things for 5th grade because I kept everything from when I taught that grade too.  It's sad I know it and I am ready to get rid of some of it.  I think I have done a pretty good job so far.  Maybe I'm hiding it better who really knows.
Well I went to school today with the mind set that I was going to have everything cleaned off of my students' desks.  I did get most of it put away but there are still somethings I am going to have to find a home.

I also worked on my bulletin boards.  I really like the color boarder but  can you spot the problem?

You got it I ran out of boarder on my second board.  So I quick drove to the nearest expensive, spend all your hard earned money store School Supply Store and tried to buy some more.  Tried being the important word.  They didn't have any they didn't even carry it.  AHHHHH so I thought well maybe I can get more name plates for my kiddos desks.  I have 24 name plates but {of course} I need 26.  But does the Store carry my name plates, NO.  So now The Hubs is going to take me this weekend to the other School Store to look there for my items.  I don't want to change I was really starting to like the look.  O'Well we will see.

If you haven't entered my giveaway there is still time.  So go ahead and enter someone has to win it might as well be you!!!

Have a great night and see ya soon!!
